Azerbaijan Telecommunication Ministry to Commence Introduction of Project on Foundation of IT Development Free Economic Areas

Until the end of 2006, Azerbaijan`s Telecommunication and IT Ministry is about to commence the introduction of the project on foundation of free economic areas on development of communications and IT in the country, Diana Landau, Chief Consultant of the Telecommunication Ministry told Global Resources Company today, Trend reports.

According to her, the project envisages the foundation of technoparks in the development of small-scale and medium innovation entrepreneurship, the foundation of the regional base on production and export of electronic equipment and software, the transformation of the country to an advantageous transit information space (Date Centre), the preparation and development of human resources for the forming information society.

Touching upon the issue on certain elements on the project development, Mrs. Landau told that it envisages the introduction of information and communication technologies to other fields as well, for example, to health protection and care, agriculture. A special economic area should be founded both from the state bodies and private companies. Up to now, just the territory nearby the Baku International airport has been considered as a territory under the project on foundation of this zone.

However, that is not determined by geographic boundaries, she said.

The exact budget of the project will be determined as well as negotiations with the suppliers, potential partners, and international organizations will be continued within the next two months.

Signing of agreements with the suppliers is expected to be held in December 2006. At the same time two groups to accelerate the implementation of the works included to the plan of measures will be work. A tender on construction works is expected to be announced till the end of the year.
