Microsoft Elaborates Azerbaijani project on People’s Computer

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S.Babayeva / Microsoft company is elaborating an Azerbaijani project People's Computer, which targets provision of law-income people with computers through a long term credit at low interest.

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies announced on 30 June that after the last discussions held during the visit of Microsoft Vice President Kraig Mandi to Baku focused on initial variant of the project and stressed the necessity of its review.

"Now the project is considered by Microsoft and afterwards it will be submitted to the Ministry. Te final variant of the project will be passed to the Government," the Ministry said.

The changes and supplements to the project are aimed at stimulation the purchase of computers by people, definition of exact date of sanctioning of the project, as well as protection of the intellectual property.

The program envisages the mass computerization of the population.

The working group of the development of the project includes specialists of several ministries and companies including Intel and Microsoft

Microsoft will present licensed program software and Intel, and relevant equipment on a privileged basis.

According to the Ministry's assessments, there are presently three to four computers for each one hundred people in Azerbaijan. The implementation of the project will enable a 5-fold increase of the figure.
