Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Babayeva / Novruz Mammadov, the Azerbaijani Communication and Information Technology Minister, has stated that changes and supplements may be injected in the Law on 'Postal service' by the end of 2007.

According to Mammadov, the necessity arose due to the 'Development of finance services' joint project with the World Bank, aimed at modernizing the postal service in the country to offer finance-bank services.

Mammadov stated that the Ministry had received a positive response from all coordinating Ministries, excluding the Finance Ministry which is still currently considering the document. Once all the necessary responses have been received, the document will be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers and then to the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament). The Finance Ministry hopes that Parliament will positively resolve the document during the autumn session.

The fee of the project is $17,5mln and the World Bank will allocate $12.25mln credit, the balance being allocated by the Azerbaijani Government. Some 1,000 new jobs will be opened within the framework of the project.
