Azerbaijan sees rising interest in hostel business

Baku, Azerbaijan, Jan. 23

By Ilhama Isabalayeva – Trend:

Chairman of the Azerbaijan Tourism Association (AzTA) Nahid Bagirov said that businessmen’s interest in opening hostels in Azerbaijan increased.

This happened after making amendments to the country’s legislation, Bagirov told Trend Jan. 23.

He said that the number of hostels in Azerbaijan is increasing, while they meet the world standards.

“Due to the fact that they have not been registered in the Culture and Tourism Ministry, it is difficult to speak about the number of hostels. Most of them were opened in Baku, especially in the city center,” he added.

Under the amendments to the Housing Code, the living space in apartment buildings relating to private housing can be used by the owner for accommodation. No procedural rules are required from the owner for this.

This amendment makes it easier for citizens to use their home as a hotel or hostel.
