Turkey reveals number of travel companies with annulled licenses

In 2017, licenses of 43 Turkish travel agencies were revoked, reads a report of the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TURSAB). In 2016, the number of Turkish travel companies, whose licenses were annulled was 158.

The report said that over the past two years (2016 and 2017), licenses of 201 tour companies were revoked in Turkey.

Over the past nine years (2009-2017), licenses of 1,773 travel agencies were revoked in Turkey.

In 2017, 9,162 travel agencies operated in Turkey.

In Turkey, licenses for tourism agencies are issued by the Culture and Tourism Ministry.

Travel companies in Turkey are divided into three categories ("A", "B", "C"). To obtain a license, a travel company of category "A" must pay 7,000 Turkish liras, category "B" - 6,000 Turkish liras, and category "C" - 5,000 Turkish liras.

To open a branch of a travel company, one must pay an additional fee of 25 percent of the license cost, depending on its category.
