Uzbekistan can extend the duration of Tajik citizens’ stay in the country without registration from 3 days to a week, Director of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the president of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov announced on March 29.

“President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed his country's foreign ministry to consider increasing the term of stay of Tajik citizens on the territory of Uzbekistan without registration and to make a decision on it as soon as possible,” Norov said.

During the state visit of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Dushanbe on March 9-10, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon asked his counterpart to consider increasing the length of stay of his country's citizens in Uzbekistan without registration from three days to at least a week.

The lower chamber of the Tajik parliament ratified the agreement “On mutual trips of citizens” on March 19, 2018, signed during the state visit of Mirziyoyev. According to the agreement, citizens of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan can stay on the territory of the neighboring state for up to 30 days without a visa, but they must register if the stay lasts for more than three days.

The Uzbek parliament has not yet ratified the agreement. However, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev allowed the visa-free travel of Tajik citizens to Uzbekistan since March 16 as an exception until the agreement comes into force.

Conditions for the stay of Tajik citizens on the territory of Uzbekistan also remained unchanged.
