By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

APM Terminals Poti hit record by handling over 500,000 TEU from January through November 2019 - more than the entire Georgian market has ever done, said Keld Mosgaard Christensen, managing director of APM Terminals Poti, Trend reports citing Georgian media outlets.

This is a great achievement which became possible through close cooperation with Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia (MTA), Christensen said.

According to the managing director, after the record numbers in different areas of Port operation throughout the year, APM Terminals Poti has reached a new record of 500,318 TEU a year as of December 9, 2019.

"From January through November 2019, the number of handled containers has grown up by 48 percent compared to the same period of last year," he said.

Christensen added that surpassing the previous annual record of 2014 (384,000 TEU) by 30 percent, this new milestone is a result of the efforts of all employees of Poti Sea Port Corporation.

Support and cooperation with the Maritime Transport Agency has also played an important role in achieving such a remarkable result, he noted.

“We are running at almost full capacity and our plans for expansion of Poti Port are now the main priority. This is an important step for Georgian economy and for the whole region,” stated the managing director of APM Terminals Poti.
