Tehran-Shomal highway to be commissioned soon

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan. 21

By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

The first section of the Tehran-Shomal (North) highway will be commissioned in Iran during the eleventh Iranian month (from January 21 through February 19), chairman of the Iranian Plan and Budget Organization Mohammad Bagher Nobakht said.

“Over $1 billion has been spent on this highway during the period of the current Iranian government’s activity (which came to power in August 2013),” Nobakht added, Trend reports referring to IRNA.

The chairman added that despite the economic pressure on Iran, no construction work was halted in Iran.

“The construction work of this highway advanced by only 17 percent from 1997 through 2013,” the chairman said. “As a result of the government’s efforts, the construction work of the first section of this highway advanced by 99 percent.”

Referring to the construction of the second section of the Tehran-Shomal highway, Nobakht said that the 20th section of the highway will be commissioned by mid-2022.

"Some 850 billion rials (about $20 million) have been allocated for the road connecting the fourth section of the highway to the third section," the chairman said.

Iran-Shomal highway connects Tehran province to Chalus county of Mazandaran province in northern Iran. This highway consists of four parts.

The length of the first section is 32 km, the length of the second section - 22 km, the length of the third section - 47 km and the length of the fourth section - 20 km.

The fourth section was commissioned in 2015. Taking into account a great number of visits to the Iranian northern regions during the holidays in Iran, the construction of this highway is in the spotlight.
