Cargo turnover in Georgia increases

In 2019, compared with 2018, the total volume of goods transported by the transport sectors of Georgia increased by 1.2 million tons and amounted to 42.3 million tons, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

Last year, the volume of cargo handled at seaports and terminals amounted to 17.2 million tons, which is 2.1 million tons more than in 2018.

In 2019, 31.4 million tons of cargo were transported by rail, which is 300,000 tons more than in 2018.

The figures of road transport decreased from 25.5 million tons in 2018 to 24.9 million tons in 2019.

As for passenger traffic, in 2019, 412.2 million passengers were served by various modes of transport (11 million more than in 2018).

The largest number of passengers (404 million) used road transport, 5.2 million of passengers used aviation transport, and 3 million used railway transport.
