A well-developed railway network is the strategic base for Kazakhstan and Lithuania cooperation, a representative of Klaipeda State Seaport Authority State Enterprise told Trend.

“Kazakhstan is one of the key transport partner of Lithuania in Central Asia. The strategic base which links Kazakhstan and Lithuania is a well-developed railways network which is able to link Europe to China,” the official said.

According to the representative, currently 40 percent of the total turnover of Klaipeda port account for transit cargo. Some 3-5 percent of this volume account for cargo from Kazakhstan.

The official also said that Kazakh businessmen are interested in business development opportunities of the Klaipeda port.

“Klaipeda port, which has connections to 65 countries worldwide is among key ports of trans-European networks of the EU. Klaipeda port transitioned to a new stage and became an international container distribution center in 2018,” the official said.

He added that due to this development and modernization the port increased the value of investments attracted.

“According to the representatives of the stevedoring and logistics companies of Klaipeda port, businessmen of business circles of Kazakhstan are interested in business development opportunities in Klaipeda port. The International Economic Forum will be held in Almaty on March 2020, where we hope to make more detailed decisions,” the official concluded.
