BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 24

By Sadraddin Agjayev – Trend:

The first toll highway in Azerbaijan will be commissioned in 2020 and it will be an alternative to the part of the Baku-Guba-Russian Federation state border highway, Spokesperson of State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads Anar Najafli told Trend.

“It is planned to put into operation a hundred-kilometer section of a new toll highway that runs parallel to part of the Baku-Guba-Russian Federation state border highway along the coast of the Caspian Sea by the end of 2020, starting from the 45th kilometer of the highway from the village of Zeynalabdin Tagiyev. The new highway will be the first toll road in Azerbaijan,” Najafli said.

“The project of the highway was developed in 2018 in accordance with the decree of the Azerbaijani president. The total length of the highway is 157 kilometers. This highway also contributes to the simplification of transportation, as it will connect the Russian border not only with Baku, but also with the North-South Transport Corridor. From an economic point of view, this section will facilitate passenger, cargo and transit transportation,” the spokesperson added.

Najafli noted that the construction of the highway is carried out by the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads.

In 2020, funds have been allocated for the improvement of 36 roads of national significance, for the repair of 12 roads in Baku, as well as for the improvement of the capital’s districts and surrounding villages.
