The work is underway to modernize the maritime fleet to expand the use of multimodal transportation in the Caspian Sea region, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies told Trend.

"The Ro-Pax ferry named Azerbaijan is expected to be commissioned this year,” the ministry said. “It is capable of transporting 56 tank cars, 50 trucks and 100 passengers.”

“A plan is being developed to create a digital platform for the exchange of data among the Caspian Sea ports of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan as part of the project on Promoting Green Ports and Connectivity in the Caspian region," the ministry said.

“The work is underway to fully modernize the railway infrastructure, develop road infrastructure and create a modern road network,” the ministry said.

"The construction of the railway section and the bridge on the border with the Islamic Republic of Iran has been completed,” the ministry said. “Thus, another step has been taken towards connecting the railways of Azerbaijan and Iran."
