Uzbekistan reveals amount of its transport sector losses due to COVID-19

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 26

Transport enterprises of Uzbekistan have suffered a loss in amount of 340 billion soum ($33.4 million) due to COVID-19 quarantine restrictions, Trend reports citing the presidential press service.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting, on ensuring sustainable functioning and consistent development of the transport industry on May 25.

"The industry is taking a number of measures to mitigate the impact of the pandemic, and will provide economic support to enterprises. For example, the most affected by quarantine joint stock companies Uzbekistan Airways and Uzbekistan Airports have been granted a $122 million loan deferral and tax benefits for more than 60 billion soum ($5.9 million). Interest-free loans in the amount of $50 million were provided from the Anti-Crisis Fund of Uzbekistan as working capital," it was reported.

Moreover, issues of ensuring sustainable operation of the transport sector in the new conditions were discussed during the meeting.
