BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 5

By Ilkin Seyfaddini - Trend:

Administration of Tashkent city (Uzbekistan) jointly with Turkish Kalyon company has developed a new transport concept for Tashkent, Trend reports citing the press service of the president.

On June 4, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the Transport Concept of Tashkent.

The concept was developed based on the analysis of transport flows in the city.

The president stressed that implementation of the concept will allow not only to streamline road infrastructure and traffic flow, but also to improve the environment and health of citizens.

The concept, which consists of 13 directions, prioritizes pedestrians and cyclists, then public transport and only then motorists.

The document covers the development of the automatic payment system for transport, taxi management system, expansion of parking spaces, development of pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure.

It is planned to revise the intersections taking into account the safety of both pedestrians and cars.

"Transport is given excessive priority on our roads. Although the movement of pedestrians, calmness and health should come first," said the president.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev gave instructions to test the Transport Concept on the basis of Turkey's experience in one of Tashkent districts and further introduce it throughout the capital and other cities of Uzbekistan, the message said.

The expected economic effect of the implementation of the concept by reducing fuel consumption, traffic accidents, air pollution, as well as optimizing public transport routes and the use of an automated payment system is more than $155.7 million per year.
