Turkmenistan to create international legal instrument of energy transit

Turkmenistan intends to step up its efforts to create an international legal instrument of the UN in the field of stability and reliability of energy transit, said Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Trend reports with reference to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Azerbaijan.

This was said during the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Turkmenistan's proposals in this area have already been enshrined in the relevant resolutions of the UN General Assembly, the report says.

The head of the state also noted the importance of developing cooperation in the field of transport, adding that Turkmenistan offers to consider the issue of ensuring stable international transport during emergencies.

Turkmenistan also expressed its intention to host an international conference of Ministers of landlocked developing countries, which will enhance cooperation in this direction.

Turkmen president highlighted the impact of COVID-19 on the global economy. He also added as a strong supporter of the Sustainable Development Goals, Turkmenistan is actively using all the necessary potential in this direction.

As reported, earlier, the UN country team in Turkmenistan participated in UN global initiatives to attract additional funding for the implementation of the plan of operational socio-economic measures in Turkmenistan to combat acute infectious diseases, which was adopted by the decree of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on July 3, 2020.
