Funds to be allocated for Ardabil-Mianeh railway construction in Iran

A total of 2.5 trillion rials (about $59.5 million) will be paid in connection with the construction of the Ardabil-Mianeh railway between Ardabil and East Azerbaijan provinces in northwestern Iran, the Governor of Iran’s Ardabil Province Akbar Behnamjoo said, Trend reports citing the governor office’s website.

He made the remark in a meeting with the Executive Director of Bank Melli Iran Mohammad Reza Hosseinzadeh.

Behnamjoo emphasized that of this amount, 1.5 trillion rials (about $35.7 million) will be paid by the Bank Melli Iran and 1 trillion rials (about $23.8 million) - by the Plan and Budget Organization of Iran.

“Under an agreement with the Bank Melli Iran, the bank will pay a total of 4 trillion rials (about $95.2 million) for construction of Iran's Ardabil-Mianeh railway,” he added.

The governor noted that the remaining 2.5 trillion rials (about $59.5 million) will be paid by the bank by the end of the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 to March 21, 2021).

In addition, the Plan and Budget Organization of Iran has allocated 7.5 trillion rials (about $179 million) in total for construction of Iran's Ardabil-Mianeh railway, according to Behnamjoo.

The construction of Iran's Ardabil-Mianeh railway began in 2015. The 175-kilometer-long Ardabil-Mianeh railway has 62 tunnels with a length of 23.8 km.

In total, it is planned to pay 10.7 trillion rials (about $254 million) for the construction of the Ardabil-Mianeh railway. About 3.8 trillion rials (about $90.4 million) was paid, so far. The railway will be commissioned by the end of the current government (August 2021).

At present, there is more than 80 percent progress in the construction of the Ardabil-Mianeh railway. The infrastructure work will be completed by the end of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021).
