Iran to increase freight and passenger traffic to North Caucasus and Europe via Nakhchivan railway

Iran will increase freight and passenger traffic to the North Caucasus and Europe with the soon restoration of the railway line between the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and Azerbaijan, Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran Mohammad Eslami said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

He made the remark in an event dedicated to the launching of the Tabriz-Sahand highway.

According to the minister, this railway line is of great importance for Iran.

Eslami added that an agreement was reached between Iran, Azerbaijan, and Russia in this regard.

“The connection of the Tabriz railway line to the Khavaran railway line in the East Azerbaijan Province of Iran is also an important step in this direction,” he said.

The length of the Tabriz-Sahand highway is 20 km. About 4.5 trillion rials (about $107 million) was spent on the construction of this highway. As reported, 30,000 vehicles will pass through this highway daily and at the same time, 6.3 million liters of fuel will be saved via the highway per year.
