Georgia, Bulgaria aiming for improvement of maritime shipping

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 23

Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Talks between maritime administrations of Georgia and Bulgaria have been held and possible measures for improvement of maritime shipping, including Ro-Ro have been identified, the Bulgarian Ministry of transport, information technologies, and communications told Trend.

"COVID-19 pandemic significantly changed the situation. Nevertheless, we remain committed to building on the existing cooperation," the ministry said.

Georgia is a valuable partner for us in the framework of our regional cooperation within the Black Sea Region as well as within the EU Neighborhood policy, the source added.

"From the transport sector perspective, we recognize the potential that Georgian ports present for the development of efficient and sustainable connections. In a wider scope, the development of modern and high-quality infrastructure in Georgia could contribute to Bulgaria's goals for attracting transit traffic from Central and Far East Asia," the ministry noted.

Bulgaria recognized the independence of Georgia on January 15, 1992. Diplomatic relations between both countries were established on June 5, 1992. Bulgaria has an embassy in Tbilisi and Georgia has an embassy in Sofia. Both countries are full members of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.
