Cargo transportation in Iran's East Azerbaijan Province soars

More than 3.5 million tons of cargo were transported in the East Azerbaijan Province (north-western Iran) during the first two months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through May 21, 2021), Deputy Director of Roads and Transport Department of East Azerbaijan Province Kazem Teymourzadeh said, Trend reports referring to Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran.

Teymourzadeh noted that the volume of transported cargo increased by 10 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year.

The deputy director added that moreover, 529,000 passengers were transported in the East Azerbaijan Province within the two month of the current Iranian year. This is an increase of 86 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year.

"There are 285 cargo transportation companies, 120 passenger transportation companies, as well as, 63 international cargo transportation companies and 6 international passenger transportation companies operating in Iran's East Azerbaijan Province," he said.

As reported, about 22.5 million tons of cargo and about 3 million passengers were transported in Iran's East Azerbaijan Province over the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021). The cargo transportation increased by 13 percent, while passenger transportation decreased by 43 percent, compared to the preceding Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 through March 19, 2020).

A total of 53,900 trucks and about 2,000 people passed through the Jolfa border checkpoint in East Azerbaijan Province in the last Iranian year.
