Iran's trade in the Caspian Sea will increase with the opening of the Khajanafas port in the Golestan Province (northeastern Iran), Director of the Ports and Maritime Department of Golestan Province Allahyar Asadi said, Trend reports citing IRNA.
According to Asadi, there is a 25-percent increase in physical work in the Khajanafas port, which is currently being built with an investment of private sector.
The director added that due to the needs, in addition to the port of Khajanafas, work is underway to develop tourism in two more ports – Bandar Gaz and Bandar Torkaman.
In order to increase Iran's maritime trade with the Caspian littoral states in the Golestan Province, the private sector is building the Khajanafas port on an area of 176 hectares. Over the past 16 years, a 1,160-meter-long waveguide has been built in the western part of the port, and a 160-meter-long waveguide is under construction.
Also, 450 meters of the 1,100-meter-long waveguide have been built in the eastern part of the port, and the rest is under construction. The port is being built with an initial investment of 1 trillion rials (about $23.8 million) by private sector and will be able to accommodate a maximum of 5,000-ton ships at the first stage.
