Georgia sees decrease in number of air flights

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 22

The number of air flights through the airspace of Georgia compared to the same period in 2020 decreased by 17 percent from January through May 2021 and amounted to 28,415 flights, Trend reports via Georgian media.

In the same period in 2019, this figure was 33 percent higher than in 2021.

For 5 months of 2019, 42,734 flights were carried out through the territory of Georgia, in the same period of 2020 - 34,312.

Meanwhile, according to Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Natia Turnava, new airlines are entering Georgia.

"Oman Air, an Arab carrier, will enter the country and launch flights several times a week. Also, from July, we will have Lufthansa's low-budget subsidiary company Eurowings, which will start operating Tbilisi-Dusseldorf flights several times a week. There is also a permanent demand from the existing airlines to increase the frequenciy of flights," Turnava said.
