Transit cargo volume through Turkmenistan increasing

The volume of transit cargo through Turkmenistan increased by 3.5 times in 2021 said President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Trend reports citing Business Turkmenistan portal.

He made the remark at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The president stressed that, using its favorable geographical position, Turkmenistan aims to become a major transport and logistics hub in Europe and Asia.

He said special attention is being paid to the development of international transport and transit corridors such as North-South and East-West, which will provide broad access to markets in Europe, the Middle East, Central, South, and Southeast Asia.

General Director of the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers Mammetkhan Chakiev announced an increase in the number of diesel locomotives plying along the Bereket-Serhetyaka and Bereket-Akyayla railway lines.

He went on saying that a depot for maintenance and repair of locomotives and wagons was created at the Serhetyaka border station.

Turkmenistan attaches special importance to the development of the transport and communication system, namely, railways and highways, sea and river ports, pipelines, as the most important component of the infrastructure that ensures the sustainable development of the entire economy of the country.
