BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 9

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

Kazakhstan is considering on the issue of increasing the volume of transportation through the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route in the direction of Azerbaijan and Georgia (ports: Baku, Batumi and Poti), Trend reports, referring to Kazakh government.

This information became known at a meeting of the Operational Headquarters of Kazakhstan on anti-crisis measures.

Transportation of goods in the export direction is carried out in the normal mode both by rail and through seaports, in response to concerns of business community regarding the transportation of Kazakhstani cargo, Chairman of the Board of Kazakhstan Railways JSC Nurlan Sauranbayev said.

Sauranbaev told also about the absence of any barriers to the transportation of goods by rail to China and back.

An increase in the volume of transportation through the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route in the direction of Azerbaijan and Georgia is being worked out in order to ensure uninterrupted transportation of goods to European countries.

There is a serious potential for using the ports of Aktau and Kuryk, the current load is only 23 percent and there is a large reserve, Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Kairbek Uskenbaev noted.

The additional route through the Baltic ports of Riga, Ventspils, and Liepaja is also being worked out.

Work is underway to open the production of domestic containers in order to increase the volume of container traffic. It is planned to containerize 2 million tons of cargo and increase the share of container traffic to 30 percent (export) from 2022 through 2023.
