BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 10. The volume of cargo transited through Iran increased by 22 percent during the first 6 months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2022), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Director General of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Alireza Moghaddasi said, Trend reports citing the administration.

In total, about 7.03 million tons of cargo were transited through Iran in 6 months, according to Moghaddasi.

“More than 2.56 million tons of cargo were transited through Iran’s Shahid Rajaee port, 636,000 tons through Bashmaq customs, 632,000 tons through Bazargan customs, as well as 627,000 tons through Parvizkhan customs, 384,000 through Bilasuvar customs, 360,000 tons through Sarakhs customs, 332,000 tons through Jolfa customs, 245,000 tons through Bandar Lengeh port, 204,000 tons through Lotfabad customs, and 189,000 tons through Astara customs,” he said.

The director general added that the implementation of the E-TIR project has resulted in the further simplification and increase of cargo transit through Iran.

“Thus, with the implementation of the E-TIR project within the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) for the 5th month of the current Iranian year (August 23 through September 22), cargo was transited from India to Iran’s Shahid Rajaee port, and then through Iran’s Astara customs to Azerbaijan and from there to Russia,” Moghaddasi noted.
