BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 18. Iran is ready to develop the eTIR project with neighboring countries in order to increase transit, Director General of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Alireza Moghaddasi said, Trend reports citing the administration.

He made the remark at a meeting with Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) Umberto de Pretto in Tehran on October 18, 2022.

The director general noted that Iran currently implements the eTIR project with Türkiye and Azerbaijan.

“The development of customs relations in bilateral and multilateral meetings with the officials of neighboring countries, the maximum use of the opportunities of transit corridors, the signing of the memorandum of understanding on the simplification of transit between Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia in Tehran, and the signing of the agreement on the implementation of the eTIR convention with Uzbekistan show that Iran attaches importance to transit,” Moghaddasi said.

During the meeting, de Pretto expressed hope that the cooperation of the region countries will contribute to the expansion of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) and East-West Corridor.

The secretary said that despite the spread of the coronavirus pandemic over the past two years, transit through Iran has grown noticeably.
