BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 16. Work on the modernization of the Sumgayit-Yalama railways is completed by 48 percent, Trend reports via the Azerbaijan Railways CJSC.

According to the company, the implementation of the project is going to create in the future ample opportunities for the rapid and safe transportation of even more cargo.

"The design work of the 140.6-kilometer-long Horadiz-Aghbend railway line, which is planned to be completed in 2024, has been completed by 78 percent, and construction work - by 38 percent (53.2 kilometers). Being a route of international importance, the Horadiz-Aghbend railway will play a significant role in freight transportation between Asia and Europe in the near future," said the statement.

According to the company, significant progress has been made in the restoration of the Barda-Aghdam railway: construction work here has been completed by 64 percent.

"As many as 85 percent of the construction of a railway bridge across the Hakari River, which has 13 spans and a length of 418 meters, has been completed on the area of the Horadiz-Aghbend railway line. The longest railway bridge in Azerbaijan will give an incentive to the growth of cargo transportation between the countries of the region," said the company.
