BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 29. Cargo transportation through Iran’s South-Eastern railway lines increased by 6 percent for the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), compared to the preceding Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), said Majid Arjouni, the head of Iran's South-Eastern Railway Department, Trend reports citing IRNA.

He made the remark at the meeting regarding the assessment of opportunities on cargo transportation in Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

The official said that a total of 900,316 tons of cargo were transported via the southeastern railway lines of Iran, while in the preceding year, the figure stood at 852,114 tons.

“Also, about 27,684 tons of cargo were transited through the South-eastern railway line within the last Iranian year, which is an increase of 17 percent compared to the 23,736 tons in the preceding year,” Arjouni added.

According to him, the mainly transited goods for the last Iranian year were cement, sulfur, bitumen, coal and etc.

Arjouni also noted that last year, Iran exported 39,544 tons of cargo to Pakistan through the mentioned railway lines. This is 861 percent more than the in preceding year.

Iran's Southeast Railway Authority oversees railways in Iran's Kerman and Sistan and Baluchestan.
