BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 19. Cargo transportation by all means of transport in Azerbaijan amounted to 71.2 million tons from January through April 2023, which is 5.9 percent higher compared to the same period of 2022, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee (SSC) told Trend.
According to the SSC, a total of 55 percent of all cargo was transported by road, 32.9 percent by pipeline, 8.3 percent by rail, 3.7 percent by sea and 0.1 percent by air from January through April 2023.
During this period, cargo transportation in the private sector increased by 4.1 percent compared to the period from January through April 2022. The share of this sector in the total volume of cargo transportation was 76.2 percent.
Passenger transportation exceeded 578.6 million people during the reporting period in Azerbaijan, which is 19.2 percent higher in comparison with the same period in 2022.
Most of the passengers (87.1 percent) were transported by motor transport, 12.4 percent by metro, 0.5 percent by other means of transport.
