BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 1. The volume of cargo loaded and unloaded at Iran’s Khorramshahr port in Khuzestan Province (south-western Iran) increased by 52 percent, during the first 6 months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023), compared to the same period last year, Director of Khorramshahr port Ali Askari said, Trend reports.
According to him, a total of 1.66 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Khorramshahr port in 6 months.
“Meanwhile, in the same period last year, the figure stood at 1.09 million tons,” Askari added.
The director also said that the port is expected to see a significant growth in its activity by the end of the current year (March 19, 2024). The port uses all its facilities to speed up the loading and unloading process of cargo.
Iran's Khorramshahr port is located on the Persian Gulf coast and covers an area of 230 hectares. The port can load and unload 4,000-6,000 tons of cargo per day. The port is mainly used for exporting products to Iraq and Kuwait, due to its proximity.
