Iran records growth in loading/unloading of crude oil, petroleum products at its ports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 13. The volume of crude oil and petroleum products loaded and unloaded at Iran’s ports decreased by 16 percent in the 7th month of the current Iranian year (September 23 through October 22, 2023), compared to the same month the previous year, Trend reports.

Data from the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) shows that around 4.64 million tons of crude oil and related products were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports within the seventh month. Of that, 2.71 million tons were loaded and 1.93 million tons were unloaded.

In total, 12.8 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports for the seventh month, showing a decrease of 10 percent compared to the same month last year. So, 7.6 million tons of cargo were loaded, and 5.21 million tons were unloaded.

About 2.17 million tons of essential products were loaded and unloaded at the country’s ports within the month mentioned. Of that, 306,000 tons were loaded and 1.87 million tons were unloaded.

Furthermore, 659,000 metal products were loaded and unloaded at Iran’s ports over the seventh month. About 594,000 tons were loaded, and 65,000 tons were unloaded.

At the same time, 2.93 million tons of construction and mining materials were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports during the reporting month. Some 2.73 million tons of them were loaded, and 198,000 tons were unloaded.

Over the seventh month, 61,800 tons of equipment, vehicles, and spare parts were loaded and unloaded at the country’s ports, of which 8,670 tons were loaded and 53,100 tons were unloaded.

Also, 357,000 tons of chemicals were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports in the 7th month of the current Iranian year. So, 305,000 tons were loaded, and 52,000 tons were unloaded.

In addition, 45,800 tons of leather, clothing, fiber, paper, and wood materials were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports over the seventh month. Of this, 1,200 tons were loaded, and 44,600 tons were unloaded.

Some 52,600 tons of small and assorted products were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports during the same month. Of that, 33,700 tons were loaded and 18,800 tons were unloaded.

In the 7th month, 1.87 million tons of container products were loaded and unloaded at the country’s ports. About 887,000 tons of container products were loaded and 986,000 tons were unloaded for the reporting month.

Moreover, 6.57 million tons of cargo were exported and 2.78 million tons were imported through Iranian ports in the 7th month of the current Iranian year.

In particular, 706,000 tons of cargo were loaded and about 400,000 tons were unloaded at Iran’s ports for transit within the mentioned month.

During the 7th month, 209,000 tons of cargo were loaded and 1.82 million tons were unloaded in Iranian ports for cabotage, as well as 76,000 tons of cargo loaded and 74,200 tons unloaded for transshipment.

Meanwhile, 13,200 tons of cargo were loaded and 141,000 tons were unloaded at Iranian ports for other purposes.

Reportedly, the annual capacity of Iranian ports is currently more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking a number of steps to increase the capacity of its ports to 500 million tons per year.
