Cargo movements at Iranian ports up

BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 23. The volume of cargo loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports increased by 8 percent during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through January 20, 2024), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Trend reports.

Data from the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization shows that over 194 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports in the specified period. Of that, around 129 million tons were loaded, and about 65.4 million were unloaded.

Over the course of ten months, 91.7 million tons of crude oil and related products, as well as more than 103 million tons of non-oil products, were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports.

Also, about 2.26 million TEU containers were loaded and unloaded in the country’s ports, showing a 6-percent increase compared to the same period last year.

The cargo was loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports in Abadan, Arvandkenar, Astara, Imam Khomeini, Amirabad, Anzali, Bushehr, Tiab, Jask, Chabahar, Charak, Chavibdeh, Khorramshahr, Dayyer, Shahid Bahonar, Shahid Rajaee, Shahid Haqqani, Fereidoonkenar, Qeshm, Genaveh, Bandar Lengeh, and Noshahr.

Reportedly, the annual capacity of Iranian ports is currently more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking a number of steps to increase the capacity of its ports to 500 million tons per year.
