BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 26. The volume of cargo loaded and unloaded at Iran’s Anzali port in Gilan Province (northern Iran) rose by 28 percent in the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through February 19, 2024), compared with the same period last year, Director General of Gilan Province’s Ports and Maritime Department Hossein Younesi said, Trend reports.
Younesi mentioned that around 1.77 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Anzali port during the reporting period.
He added that 1.43 million tons of goods were imported into the country via Anzali port for eleven months, shows an increase of 49 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year.
The director general also said that grain, cooking oil, and iron materials were the main imported items via the port.
“At the same time, about 288,000 tons of goods were exported through the port of Anzali. The export items were mainly consisted of petrochemical products and construction materials,” Younesi noted.
According to him, 6,392 TEU containers were loaded and unloaded during the mentioned period.
Over 11 months, 649 ships docked at Anzali port, showing an increase of 38percent compared to the same period last year, the official also pointed out.
Reportedly, Iran's Anzali port is considered one of Iran's main ports on the Caspian Sea. The annual loading and unloading capacity of this port is 6.15 million tons.
In the 10th month alone (December 22, 2023 through January 20, 2024), approximately 159,000 tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Anzali port in Iran.
