BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 2. Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan, Samir Mammadov, has named the tariff and terms of transportation of containers from China through Baku to the Black Sea ports of Georgia, Trend reports.
According to Mammadov, for 40-foot containers from the Kazakh-Chinese border to the port of Batumi, there is a fixed tariff of $3,100 per container.
"The travel time all the way is 15 days, while previously it was 36 days. Thus, all parties involved in this multimodal transportation of cargoes from China to Georgian ports along the Middle Corridor are trying to increase the attractiveness of this route further," Mammadov said.
In particular, the fleet of Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company, with 54 ships of various purposes (the largest fleet on the Caspian Sea), is active in the development of the Middle Corridor, as is the Baku International Sea Trade Port (BISTP).
"The development of BISTP, with the growth of its transshipment capacity to 25 million tons of cargo per year from the current capacity of 15 million tons of cargo per year, will also stabilize the load of the expanding Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTC) railway route and other regional corridors," Mammadov noted.
He stressed that from the end of April 2024, BTC will start operating with a capacity of 5 million tons of cargo per year.
