BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 15. Azerbaijan's railroad transported 4.47 million tons of cargo from January through March 2024, which is 0.3 percent more than the indicator of the same period in 2023, the data of the State Statistics Committee said, Trend reports.
Out of the mentioned volume of cargo, 16,300 tons were transported per day on average along the North-South route, 3,400 tons per day in the East-West direction, and 900 tons per day to the South.
According to the State Committee, Azerbaijan's cargo transportation by rail in 2023 amounted to 18.3 million tons, which is 2.6 percent less compared to the figure of 2022.
Rail transport contributed 7.9 percent of all freight transportation in 2023.
Rail transport accounted for 8.2 percent of total traffic from January through March 2024.
