Kazakh city to become the capital of Universiade-2017

Kazakh city of Almaty will become the capital of the Winter Universiade -2017, city's akimat [regional governor's office] reported on Monday.
Two cities - Almaty and Trentino (Italy) - pretended the status of Universiade's capital.
"However, due to obvious advantages of Almaty, as well as the economic crisis, the Italian Government decided to withdraw its candidacy. Thus, due to absence of competitors, Almaty became the capital of the Universiade - 2017," the report said.
The presentation of the city of Almaty for the 28th Winter Universiade in 2017 will take place on Nov. 29. Its candidacy will be presented by city's akim (mayor) Akhmetzhan Yesimov.
The Universiade is an International multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU).
