President of Kazakhstan to decide on Prime Minister

Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 18 /E.Tariverdieva/

The ruling party Nur Otan will formally agree on who takes the post of Prime Minister, but the final word will rest with president Nursultan Nazarbayev, a member of the Expert Council of Trend and editor in chief of the IAA Bulletin of the Caucasus Aleksey Vlasov said who was also in Kazakhstan as an international election observer.

"The Kazakh government has resigned and Prime Minister Karim Massimov wrote a letter of resignation since the CEC announced the final results of the parliamentary elections," Mr Vlasov said.

"There's a sense that the issue will be decided at the last moment as the pros and cons are being weighed up since the resignation of Mr Masimov and the appointment of another official to the post. There is a feeling that no politician in Ak Orda has accurate information about their future political fate, "Mr Vlasov said, adding that the most likely candidates for the premiership are the head of the Presidential Administration Aslan Musin and Minister of Defence Adilbek Dzhaksybekov.

"In my opinion, with a probability of just over 50 per cent, Mr Nazarbayev would prefer to maintain the status quo and Karim Masimov will head the government, which will undergo major changes. However Mr Nazarbayev's trademark is to make personnel decisions which even the most knowledgeable experts cannot predict," Mr Vlasov said
