Kazakh Mangystau region's Akim (Mayor) Baurzhan Mukhamedzhanov proposes to abolish the state of emergency in the Zhanaozen city, Kazinform reports with reference to the "Vremya" (Time) newspaper.
"The situation in Zhanaozen is stable. I and my colleagues have even planed to appeal to the President for the early abolition of the state of emergency in the city. We will work on this issue," Mukhamedzhanov told in an interview with the newspaper.
Mass riots hit the Kazakh oil city of Zhanaozen in Mangystau region on Dec.16 killing 16 and injuring more than 100 people. Buildings and cars were burned and property of individuals and legal bodies destroyed. Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev declared a state of emergency in Zhanaozen until Jan.31.
