Kazakhstan and Russia will outline cooperation on the ERA GLONASS project by late 2012, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Vladislav Surkov said following talks with the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Serik Akhmetov.
"Without cooperation with Kazakhstan there will no full-fledged Eurasian transport corridor. I think we have a common interest to introduce navigation technology in Russia and in Kazakhstan based on the GLONASS system. We are ready for a flexible position and we very much hope that by the end of the year, we will outline cooperation," Surkov said.
During the conversation, Serik Akhmetov said that the Kazakh Ministry of Transport and Communications as the body responsible for overall coordination, is working to introduce this system.
ERA-GLONASS is a project to provide emergency assistance to car owners involved in a traffic incident. This emergency response system can reduce the arrival time of an ambulance and rescuers to the scene by 30 per cent.
