The agreement on establishing the Eurasian Economic Community (EAEC) was signed in Astana on May 29 between Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Russia.

Presidents of Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus Nursultan Nazarbayev, Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko signed an agreement on the Eurasian economic integration following the meeting of the enlarged Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Astana.

The idea of establishing the EAEC was first announced by President Nazarbayev at the Lomonosov Moscow State University on March 29, 1994.

The leaders of the three countries signed an agreement on the establishment of a common customs territory and formation of the Customs Union in October 2007.
