The Kazakh National Company Astana EXPO-2017 has cut expenses for holding EXPO-2017 international exhibition in Astana by another 53 billion tenge that made total cuts to reach 131 billion tenge, the company's head Akhmetzhan Yesimov said at a meeting with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, the Kazakh president's press office reported Jan. 27.

The work on cost savings is being carried out inside the company. So, the number of top managers was reduced from 15 to 6, and at this stage it is planned to optimize staffing by 12 percent.

Akhmetzhan Yessimov said that the construction of the objects of the exhibition is conducted in accordance with the planned timetable.

He went on to add that more than 230 Kazakh companies concluded contracts for the supply of goods and services totaling 77 billion tenge.

He said that 70 foreign countries including 35 developed countries have so far confirmed participation in the event. In general, the company is on target to attract 100 country participants.

Kazakhstan will for the first time hold the EXPO in 2017. The exhibition will run from June 10 to Sept. 10.

The topic of the exhibition will be "Energy of the Future."

EXPO has been held since 1851.
