Kazakh mining company KAZ Minerals PLC ("KAZ Minerals" or "the Group") produced 81,000 tons of copper cathode in 2015 compared to 83,500 tons in 2014, the company's press service said Jan. 28.

Production of copper in concentrate was 89.4 million tons compared to 89.9 million tons in 2014.

Copper cathode production decreased due to repair works at the Balkhash copper-smelting factory in 2015.

During the reporting period, 14.5 million tons of ore were produced (ore output stood at 4.63 million tons in 2014).

"Ore production significantly increased by increasing the volumes of mining works on Bozshakol and Aktogay projects," said the company.

"In 2015, 7 million tons of ore were mined on Bozshakol and 3 million tons on the Aktogay project, which together accounts for 70 percent of the ore production in group," said the company.

The average copper content in the ore for the group was 1.1 percent in 2015 compared to 2.35 percent in 2014.

In 2015, KAZ Minerals maintained the level of production of gold bars at the level of 2014 - 34,600 ounces. Silver production in granules was 3.14 million ounces compared to 3.45 million ounces in 2014. Production of zinc in concentrate fell from 121,400 tons in 2014 to 94,300 tons in 2015.
