Trend:
Lower prices for energy resources will have a negative impact on the economy, Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan Serikkali Brekeshev said, speaking about two scenarios for the development of the Doctrine of achieving carbon neutrality of Kazakhstan until 2060, Trend reports.
According to Brekeshev, the two scenarios include baseline scenario and carbon neutrality scenario.
“The baseline scenario is a path in which there are no significant technological changes or political measures for decarbonization. According to the simulation results, this will not allow achieving the forecast indicators of economic growth," Serikkali Brekeshev said at an international conference "Ways to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement and carbon neutrality of Kazakhstan".
According to him, this is due to the influence of three external factors that can shock the economy.
"The first is the introduction of a border carbon tax by both the European Union and other large trading partners of Kazakhstan," the minister said.
"At the same time, the expected decline in energy prices in the long term according to the forecast of the International Energy Agency and the impact of climate change on agriculture will also have a negative impact," Brekeshev said.
