Kazakhstan talks villages without internet access

Trend:

Some 1,178 villages in Kazakhstan don't have internet access, Zhanat Asantayev, vice president of the National Association for Communication and Digitalization, said, Trend reports.

"At the same time, despite the ratings, the population of Kazakhstan is facing difficulties with access to high-speed internet with good quality, and in some places it’s unable to use it at all,” Asantayev noted. “According to government agencies, in 2020, the implementation of projects for the construction of a fiber-optic communication line and providing mobile internet access, covering 5,332 settlements with broadband access, was completed."

“Given the international practice, within the framework of the previously existing ‘Digital Kazakhstan’ state program, fiber-optic communication lines were brought to the largest settlements,” the vice president further said. “In the settlement itself, communication is provided to subscribers through mobile technology.”

"Meanwhile, each operator makes the choice of mobile technology itself, based on technical capabilities,” he added.
