BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 6. Kazakhstan doubled the financing of science from 2019 through 2022 to 80 billion Kazakh tenge ($172.1 million), Trend reports, citing Kazakh media.

Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Altai Kulginov said that an increase in the funds allocated to science is a necessary step to achieve the desired level of improvement.

“Contrary to our expectations, domestic science does not contribute to the development of the economy and living standard, when compared to many developed countries. High technology production manufactured as a result of domestic scientific achievements remains insufficient in Kazakhstan”, he added.

The deputy prime minister noted that the increase in funding will enable the country to attract young students into the scientific field, which would strengthen the future potential of Kazakhstan.

He concluded by saying a systemic approach, which would include the creation of scientific and technical clubs, production labs, university IT clubs, and research institutes, is necessary to improve the current situation.
