BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 28. Following the Kazakh-Czech Business Forum held in Astana on April 25, major Czech companies signed agreements and memoranda with Kazakh companies and the government. Among those companies was also Škoda Transportation, a Czech engineering company that is the flagship of the Škoda Group.

As Jan Švehla, Communications Manager of the Škoda Group, told Trend, on April 25, Škoda Group signed a Framework Agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the basic principles of the implementation of investment projects related to the production of rolling stock vehicles and trolleybuses.

"The document sets out the basic principles of cooperation between the involved parties on the potential future production of rolling stock vehicles and trolleybuses by Škoda Group in the Republic of Kazakhstan," said Švehla.

According to the communications manager, the regions of Central Asia and the Southern Caucasus, in particular, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, are of strategic importance for the Škoda Group.

"The signing of the document is the result of Škoda Group’s long-term efforts to set a footstep in such regions and simultaneously the first step of conducting specific negotiations and discussion on the future cooperation between Škoda Group and its partners in Kazakhstan," he said.

Moreover, Švehla also touched on the issue of de-carbonization in the region.

"Škoda Group is looking forward to contributing with its technically advanced vehicles to sustainable mobility in the region, in particular, to support the government in decreasing air pollution and achieving de-carbonization arising from public transportation," he added.

The aforementioned forum was attended by heads of central and local state bodies, national and quasi-state companies, representatives of sectoral and regional business associations as well as heads of leading Czech companies.
