Kazakhstan, Sweden strengthen investment cooperation in mining industry

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 5. Kazakhstan and Sweden are keen to strengthen investment cooperation in the mining industry, Trend reports.

This was noted during the Kazakh-Swedish roundtable themed "Sustainable Development and Increasing Efficiency in the Mining Industry" held as part of the 13th International "Astana Mining & Metallurgy Congress".

The Swedish delegation was represented by prominent mining companies such as ABB, Alfa Laval, Volvo, Epiroc, Olofsors, Sandvik, SSAB, and others. These companies are renowned for their high levels of energy efficiency, automation, safety, and digitalization in the mining sector.

At the event, Anara Mekebayeva, Head of Cooperation with European Countries at Kazakh Invest, emphasized Kazakhstan's significant potential in the extraction and development of mineral resources.

"We are pleased to invite potential Swedish investors to cooperate for exploration, the discovery of new deposits, localization of production and exchange of experience and technologies," she said.

The roundtable discussion addressed various aspects of sustainable development and efficiency improvement in the mining industry. Representatives from Swedish companies shared their experiences and expertise in advanced innovations and green solutions aimed at reducing the industry's environmental impact.

The event organized by Kazakhstan and Sweden Embassies, the Business Sweden organization, and the Kazakh Invest National Company gathered over 100 hundred people.

In 2022, the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Sweden reached $325.9 million (exports - $96.1 million, imports - $229.8 million), marking a 41.7 percent increase compared to 2021 ($230.1 million). According to the National Bank of Kazakhstan, Swedish direct investments in Kazakhstan's economy amounted to $556.3 million from 2005 to 2022.
