BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 6. It is expected that the wheat harvest will reach 16 million tons in Kazakhstan this year, said Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan Yerbol Karashukeyev at the meeting of the government, Trend reports.

"To make a more or less accurate forecast for the harvest, we need to wait for the crops to emerge. However, all factors indicate that grain production can be projected at average annual levels. As for the wheat, the gross harvest is estimated at around 16 million tons. It will be a good harvest," he said.

According to him, this year's sowing was completed within the optimal timeframe. Efforts to preserve soil moisture were also carried out timely. Spring fieldwork has been completed in almost all regions of Kazakhstan, except for Ulytau.

Overall, this year, the total sown area amounted to 23.4 million hectares, which is 68,600 hectares higher than in 2022. This includes a spring crop area of 20.9 million hectares.

Kazakhstan's agricultural sector continues to play a vital role in the economy, contributing to the country's overall growth and development. With a larger sown area, the sector is well-positioned to meet domestic demands and further increase exports.
