ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 23. The fleet of Kazakhstan's Kaztemirtrans JSC (KTT, a subsidiary company of Kazakhstan Railways, KTZ) has transported about 41 million tons of coal within Kazakhstan since the beginning of preparations for the 2023–2024 heating season, Trend reports.
This process involves more than 20,000 KTT open wagons, which transport coal for the population and thermal power plants. This is 77 percent of the entire fleet.
Kaztemirtrans JSC and KTZ Freight Transportation LLP, together with akimats (regional executive authorities), the Ministry of Energy, and the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, began planning uniform transportation of solid fuels for the heating season of 2023–2024 in May of this year.
Advance preparation makes it possible to prevent condensation of loading during the peak season and to properly plan transportation and distribute the fleet of open wagons and locomotives.
In addition, in preparation for the heating season, more than 5,000 open wagons were repaired.
The volume of cargo loading on the Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ, national company) network amounted to 22.1 million tons in September 2023, which is 6.7 percent more than the same period last year.
As the KTZ said, 14.6 million tons were transported by rail across the country, which exceeds the September 2022 figure by 5 percent. Exports increased by 10 percent and amounted to over 7.5 million tons.
8.8 million tons of coal were loaded. This figure increased by 2 percent compared to the September 2022 level. 6.4 million tons (+4.5 percent) were transported throughout the country. 2.4 million tons were loaded for export.
