ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 16. Kazakhstan intends to increase the volume of cargo transportation through the Saryagash border railway crossing on the border with Uzbekistan, Trend reports.
As the Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ, national company) explained, the border crossing is currently heavily loaded.
Thus, with a norm of 6,000 wagons, the wagon flow is 6,500, resulting in a decline in main network capacity.
In this regard, KTZ is actively working with representatives of Uzbekistan's railway administration to raise the volume of cargo transit through Saryagash to 30 trains per day.
This measure should help to calm things down at the border crossing.
From January to September 2023, Uzbekistan was one of the top rail recipients of Kazakhstani freight.
The volume of export transportation to/through Uzbekistan of grain increased by 27 percent, ferrous metals and petroleum products - by 18 percent, chemical and mineral fertilizers - by 57 percent, oil - by 78 percent, construction cargo - by 36 percent. Coal shipments through the Saryagash junction increased 2.1 times.
The export transportation of Kazakhstan by rail amounted to 63 million tons from January through September 2023. This indicator increased by 7.4 percent compared to the same period in 2022.
