ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 30. The volume of investments in the furniture industry in Kazakhstan reached 1.17 billion tenge (about $2.65 million) from January through March 2024, Trend reports.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan, this is 11 times more than in the same period last year (108 million tenge, or about $243,000).
As the ministry noted, the Turkistan region has become the leader in investment in the furniture industry. In the first three months of this year, the furniture industry of the region attracted 645.1 million tenge (about $1.45 million), or 55 percent of the national level. Such a high result was made possible due to increased investment in the production of chairs and other seating furniture.
Meanwhile, Kazakhstan exported furniture totaling $13.7 million in 2023, which is 31 percent more than in 2022. The main volume of furniture products was sent to the CIS countries.
In total, last year, domestic enterprises produced furniture worth 82.6 billion tenge (about $184 million). This is 28 percent more than in 2022.
The share of furniture production in the total industry for 2023 was 0.18 percent; in the manufacturing industry, it was 0.4 percent. The industry's physical volume index was 143.5 percent.
To note, furniture in Kazakhstan is produced by 1,515 enterprises, of which 1,507 are small. Last year, the industry employed about 14,500 people.
